Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Shuhei Yoshida (“we”) handles information in the iOS application Sumina (“the app”).

This is a translation provided for convenience. If it differs from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

2.1 Account identifier

The app creates an anonymous account on first launch without asking for a name or an email address. This uses Firebase Authentication (Google LLC); we hold only an identifier for the user.

Only if you protect your account with Sign in with Apple do we receive the identifier Apple provides and, if you choose to share it, an email address (which may be an Apple private relay address).

2.2 What you enter or add

• The topic text you enter
• URLs of articles you add

2.3 What the app produces or fetches

• Title, body, summary, publication date and source URL of fetched articles
• The dialogue script and the audio file generated from them
• AI usage (the number of tokens processed and the corresponding cost)

Usage is recorded solely to enforce the allowance included in your subscription.

2.4 Notifications

If you allow notifications, we receive an Apple Push Notification service device token.

2.5 Subscription

Subscription state is managed through RevenueCat, Inc. We hold whether a subscription is active, the product identifier, the start and end of the current period, and the period type (free trial or regular).

We never receive card numbers or any other payment details. All payment is handled by Apple.

2.6 What we do not collect

• Location
• Contacts, photos, calendars or any other on-device data
• The advertising identifier (IDFA)
• The app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs whatsoever. There is no mechanism in it that measures your behaviour.

3. Why we use it

1. To provide the app’s features (collecting articles, summarising them, generating and playing audio overviews)
2. To notify you when generation finishes
3. To check your subscription and enforce its usage allowance
4. To investigate faults and improve the app
5. To respond to your enquiries

4. Who we share it with

To provide the app’s features, information is sent to the following processors. We do not sell your information.

4.1 Use by AI providers

The Anthropic and Google services are used under terms in which data sent through their APIs is not used to train generative AI models. The details are governed by each provider’s own terms.

4.2 Fetching articles

Based on the topic or URL you provide, the app fetches the content of publicly available web pages. That content is used only to generate a summary and audio overview for you, and is never shared with other users.

5. Where it is stored, and for how long

Information is stored on servers located in Japan.

It is retained until you delete your account. Deleting your account removes all data, including categories, articles, scripts, audio files and usage records. This cannot be undone.

6. Your choices

• Deletion — you can delete your account and all data at any time from the Account screen in the app.
• Access and correction — to request access to or correction of the information we hold, contact us at the address above. We will respond after verifying your identity.

If you use the app anonymously, we have no way to identify you and therefore may be unable to verify such a request. Please use the in-app deletion instead.

7. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

8. Changes

We may revise this policy as the law or the app changes. We will announce significant changes in the app or on this page.
