These terms govern use of the iOS application Sumina (“the app”), provided by Shuhei Yoshida (“we”). By using the app you agree to them.
This is a translation provided for convenience. If it differs from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.
1. What the app does
The app collects publicly available web articles on topics you register, summarises them with AI, and generates a two-person dialogue audio overview for you to listen to.
2. Accounts
You can start using the app without entering a name or an email address. An account in that state is tied to a credential held only on your device, so deleting the app removes any means of reaching your data on the server, and it cannot be recovered.
If you protect your account with Sign in with Apple, you can return to the same account after reinstalling the app or changing devices. We strongly recommend protecting your account if you intend to keep your data.
3. Subscription
3.1 Scope and price
The app’s AI features (collecting articles, summarising, generating audio overviews) require a monthly subscription. The price and the length of any free trial are as shown on the purchase screen and in the App Store.
3.2 Automatic renewal
The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Where a free trial applies, it converts to a paid subscription automatically at the end of the trial.
3.3 Cancellation
You can cancel at any time in iOS Settings → (your name) → Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the paid period.
3.4 Payment and refunds
Payment is processed by Apple. Refunds are governed by Apple’s policies; we cannot issue refunds directly.
3.5 Usage allowance
Each subscription period includes an AI usage allowance. Once it is reached, new collection and audio generation may be unavailable for the rest of that period. Reaching the allowance is not grounds for a refund.
4. AI-generated content
Summaries and audio overviews produced by the app are generated automatically by AI, and we do not warrant their accuracy, completeness or timeliness. They may contain statements that differ from the source article, or omit important context.
Always check the source article before relying on anything for an important decision. We are not liable for outcomes arising from reliance on the app’s content.
5. Articles and copyright
The app fetches publicly available web pages and produces a summary and audio for you. The generated material is for your personal use only; please do not distribute, publish or republish it.
Copyright in source articles remains with their respective owners. You are responsible for the URLs you choose to add.
6. Prohibited conduct
- Anything unlawful or contrary to public order and morals
- Placing an excessive load on the app’s servers or network
- Analysing, modifying or reverse-engineering the app
- Circumventing authentication, or attempting to access another user’s data
- Selling or redistributing generated content to third parties
- Anything else we reasonably consider inappropriate
7. Changes, suspension and discontinuation
We may change the app or suspend it without prior notice. If we discontinue it, we will give notice in advance where practicable.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The app is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will suit any particular purpose, or that it will be free from interruption or defects.
Except in cases of our wilful misconduct or gross negligence, our liability for any damage arising from use of the app is limited to the subscription fee you paid in the month in which the damage occurred.
9. Changes to these terms
We may amend these terms. We will announce significant changes in the app or on this page. Continuing to use the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the amended terms.
10. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court shall have exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance for any dispute relating to the app.
